Your Family's Tomorrow Will Depend On Today's Preparation

Posted On 3 August 2020

In light of recent events in 2020, people are starting to put more value in the things they used to take for granted. And now more than ever, U.S. citizens are looking for ways to regain that sense of security and safety that many of us have grown accustomed to at our jobs, at our schools, but most of all, in our homes.

Today, a home is no longer just a place to lay your head. It’s a place where you and your family can be safe, comfortable and self-sufficient. It’s the one thing that we all rely on to provide us with the consistency and protection we need when the world outside gets too hectic.

With new signs of what the future holds, it’s our responsibility to leverage the knowledge and resources we have to safeguard what we value the most, and in doing so, creating a resilient home in the face of disaster.  - Philip Gardner

What's a Resilient Home?

To be resilient, is to have the ability to endure, adapt to, or bounce back from adverse situations. That’s exactly what a Resilient Home does. It doesn’t just prepare you for everyday conditions, it prepares you for worst case scenarios.

That means when a power outage or natural disaster disrupts the lives of millions, your home will still have warm showers, hot dinners, WiFi, and entertainment at your fingertips. A Resilient Home combines the ease and efficiency of smart devices and appliances and combines them with machine learning technology that has the ability to make critical decisions on it’s own.

Don’t mistake the smart home industry for new and experimental technology. This industry has been growing steadily for decades, and in the last 20 years, these technologies have been fine-tuned, polished, and perfected for future-proofing not only your home but your lifestyle.

A Beacon of Light in Dark Times

At the end of the day, smart home tech is only as good the power source it’s connected to. This is the reason why thousands of homeowners are starting to make the switch to Intelligent Energy Management

Unfortunately, some homeowners are learning this the hard way. In fact, over 2 million CA residents faced the threat of preemptive power shut offs late last year to prevent deadly wildfires like those we've seen in the past.

When the Grid Failed Evan, Lives were at Risk

Evan, a 52 year old resident of Sonoma County, CA, shared with us his account of the crisis. As a homeowner in a household of 4, Evan was shaken up when he realized that he only had a few hours to buy everything he needed to survive for days without power.

He thought the utility was supposed to give sufficient notice before a Power Shutdown, but instead, Evan was left scrambling to buy batteries, generators and canned foods in an attempt to keep the lights on during the blackout.

With barely enough money in the bank and news that his job would be out of business for the next 4 days, he was overwhelmed with stress. And as he realized that he couldn’t afford a backup system on such short notice, the only thing Evan could think about was his 70 year old grandmother who relies on medical equipment that needs electricity to work.

Food in the fridge was going bad. My mother lives with us and depends on medical equipment and we had to evacuate to get her care." - Evan Smith

Luckily, Evan was able to pack the family into his SUV and stay with some relatives in Portland. "It was a nerve-racking experience for all of us, but thankfully, we were able to safely wait out the chaos."

Cynthia's Next-Gen Home is Self-Regulating and Fully Automatic

Cynthia, a CA resident and mother of 2 young children, told us a completely different story of her experience with the blackouts. She told us that she was able to finally do the decorating that she was putting off for years.

She was lucky to have the option to work from her laptop, while her office was closed, which also gave her more time to spend with her family. But according to Cynthia, it wasn’t all luck. While millions rushed to buy generators and flashlights, Cynthia took our Resilient Home Strategy Consultation and we pointed her in the right direction.

We showed her some simple, but effective options to Future-Proof her home without spending a fortune. She decided to equip her house with naak, an Intelligent Energy Management System designed to make life easier, safer and more resilient.

Cynthia estimates that she’s been through 11 power outages in the past year and ever since she got naak, she barely notices when the power’s been shut off. She’s comforted by her ability to charge her electric car even when the grid is down, but most of all, she values the peace of mind she gets knowing that her home will run smoothly even during a crisis.
